cardinal and junco

Who stays around your place in winter? Or shows up from farther north?

the dark-eyed junco migrates from subarctic and arctic climates to the contiguous United States[43] and the American goldfinch from taiga to wintering grounds extending from the American South northwestward to Western Oregon.

The northern cardinal may live year-round in central and eastern United States. As a seed eater, it can continue to find food, and will visit bird feeders. It needs insects during breeding season, however.

Waxwings do not migrate far, and continue eating fruits that hang on the bushes into winter, such as rosehips and juniper berries.

The red-winged blackbird may winter as far north as Pennsylvania, but usually migrates to warmer states.

Starlings are still around at my place. I expect they are cleaning up after the chickens for part of their diet.

PWBPeeps is a group that posts a daily diary and nightly open thread for animal lovers. We share photos, seek & give advice about pet health and behavior issues, support each other in times of sadness and stress, celebrate together when times are good, and on most days have an inordinate amount of fun.

You are welcome to join us!

Here are few not-too-onerous PWB rules
