Welcome to the Street Prophets Coffee Hour.

Last week I shared the tale of woe that is my struggle with H&R Block Emerald Card Services. It must have resonated with a lot of people; I was truly surprised by how many folks have had similar, if not worse, experiences in the hellscape known as Customer Service. I'd mentioned that I had intended to include my Social Security number in my next fax to them. Even though they hadn't yet asked for it.

A lot of people wrote to urge me against that idea. So many, and for such good reasons, it was impossible to ignore. I asked my daughter for her opinion. That intelligent and savvy young woman agreed with those people. She also urged me to not include my Social Security number unless I was specifically asked for it. I was convinced. I didn't include it. The fax went out (the third I'd sent) and Lo and Behold...the very next day I got an email from them. The fax had been received; the information was sufficient. The old card is now deactivated. A new one is being issued and should arrive in the first week of January. The balance on the old card will be transferred to the new, and available as soon as I activate it and create a new pin number.

I sincerely hope it actually happens the way I've been assured of.

At any rate, I owe my thanks to everyone here who knows more than I did, have more experience with this sort of thing, and took the time to share that with me. I am grateful to you all.

Me and my pal Barkimedes Max, earlier this month. Just because I wanted to share something happy.

I wish everyone a peaceful and happy New Year. And again, thank you.

Thanks for reading. This is an open thread, all topics are welcome.
