PPP Poll shows Sinema is Ms. Irrelevant in AZ 2024 Senate Race [1]

A PPP poll commissioned by Ruben Gallego for Arizona shows that contrary to popular myth Senator Kyrsten Sinema running as an Independent would have little effect on the 2024 U.S, Senate race in Arizona. She would get crushed, taking only 13% of the vote. The reaction to her running as an Independent in 2024 was portrayed in much of the media as almost certainly result in a Republican flipping the seat. To the contrary, Sinema is more popular with Trump votes, with a 43/27 favorability, than with Biden votes, who view her unfavourability at 20/69 .

Rather than poll with a generic Republican PPP polled with Kari Lake as the presumptive nominee. That would seem to be a reasonable assumption that Lake would be the strongest candidate, she only lost this year’s Governor race by only 17,000 votes. So with Kari Lake and Ruben Gallego as the Republican and Democratic nominees as Kyrsten Sinema as Independent the PP poll has a result of:

Kari Lake: 41%

Ruben Gallego: 40%

Kyrsten Sinema: 13%

If Sinema wisely saw running as an Independent would be an exercise in futility, in a head to head race Gallego edges Lake 48-47. In the highly unlikely event that Arizona Democrats decided to not field a candidate for Senate in deference to Sinema, Lake would defeat Sinema trailing by 3 points at 42-39.

Personally, I’m a bit skeptical Kari Lake would run for Senate in 2024. That’s a lot of work, having to show up for Senate votes while living in a “swamp” and such. And, I think she has higher ambitions.

But in any event, Sinema is toast, and Bring it On, Ruben Gallego! Arizona needs and deserves a real Democrat in the U.S. Senate!
