After Ukraine’s President Zelensky visited Washington, D. C., U. S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado U. S. House District 3) acknowledged that the people of Ukraine are suffering. Thousands of Ukrainians have died defending their country from the Russians.
But can you guess what Boebert pivoted to after acknowledging the Ukrainians’ suffering?
x Literally knows nothing about foreign policy but is pretty good at outrage performance art.

The war in Ukraine is deadly, that’s true, “the carnage has not stopped.” So in the middle of a life-and-death struggle, we demand that the Ukrainians give us a full accounting of what they have spent the money on that we’ve sent them so far?
I suppose an Ukrainian battalion commander might face the dilemma of whether to use American aid to buy some new AK-74 rifles and the appropriate ammunition, or maybe invest in Donald Trump’s digital trading cards. Those things are worth their weight in gold.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, Boebert pivoted from Zelensky defending Ukraine’s border to President Biden’s supposed failure to defend America’s southern border from what exactly?
In all seriousness, there is a crisis at our southern border. Sergio Martínez-Beltrán for the Texas Standard:
No state has more ranches or farms than Texas, which produces everything from cotton and corn to cattle and watermelons. Last year, the agriculture industry brought in nearly $25 billion in revenue . But farmers continue to face a significant challenge: a labor shortage. “It’s quite important, and it’s just because of the type of work — it’s really hard, hard work,” said Luis Ribera, the director of the Center for North American Studies at Texas A&M University. “And domestic workers, they’d rather work somewhere else.” As a result, the demand for foreign agricultural workers has hit an all-time high, and experts say the trend could continue ...
I don’t know if Lauren Boebert is doing anything at all to address that problem. If only there was a way to get more of those foreign agricultural workers while continuing to demonize them and equate them with hostile Russian troops...
Footnotes: 1.) That guy with the helmet in the AT-AT on Hoth is Maximilian Veers, played by Julian Glover. 2.) A peck is a quarter of a bushel, almost 9 liters. I don’t know how many pecks of peppers Peter Piper can pick in an hour, but I do know he can’t pick enough of them by himself for the proper balance of supply and demand.
