Warning: This story (see link below) and its images are brutal, yet its reporting is essential to both holding accountable those who committed such atrocities and to dissuading those who naively argue that we have any right to once again abandon Ukraine to Russia.

This war is NOT about the legalities of The Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances or The Lisbon Protocol.

This war is NOT about other wars.

This war is NOT about historical Western imperialism.

This war was NOT caused by NATO accepting into its membership countries seeking self-determination.

This war is NOT about the historical corruption in Ukraine (inherited from Russia).

This war IS about our fundamental ethical duty as the oldest democracy on earth to support and defend a nascent democracy whose people overwhelming and valiantly are fighting an existential struggle for freedom from a dictator as brutal as these images show.

and this war IS about what will happen to us if we don’t.

If we do not stand consistently in support of Ukraine with whatever it takes for their complete victory, we invite and encourage into our livingrooms the same forces of brutal authoritarianism already on our doorsteps and in our politics.
