Zelensky Gave Us a Present Tonight [1]

And no, it wasn’t just the flag, which was awesome.
Ukraine President Volodimir Zelensky knocked it out of the park tonight in his address to a jointly attended session of congress.
This diary is not a synopsis by any means, but rather a pointing out of what stood out to me, and what I think it means.
First, behind President Zelensky were two women, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (presiding) and Vice President Kamala Harris (as President of the Senate). I found this very powerful and empowering. And the picture of them holding the Ukrainian flag behind President. Zelensky is going to be epic.
Second, I watched how many times the entire chamber clapped during the Ukrainian President’s speech, how long they clapped, and the number of standing ovations he received. And while I realize Republican members were no doubt in the minority of the audience, what I did not see was a strict “we will not stand, we will not clap for anything that person says because we can’t give the Democrats a nod to anything”.
The Ukraine president’s speech and the assembled audience’s reaction gives me hope. And that’s what I mean by the diary title “ Zelensky Gave Us a Present Tonight”,
Now, let’s see If we will all accept it.
