THE PEOPLE HAVE THEIR DAY
There was a crooked man, who walked a crooked mile; he found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile. He wooed a fancy wife and they lived a crooked life: the crooked man, his cronies, his children and his spouse — and they all lived together in the Nation’s House.
He thought he was the President; he thought he was the State (though pets, we hear, he couldn’t tolerate). Therefore, there was no crooked cat to catch a crooked mouse! His “Cabinet,” corrupt, his attorney (Giuliani) such a louse — his aides, he liked to blame, berate, and he was apt to grouse.
The nation would not have it! They rose up with a shout: “Get this man and crooked cronies. Throw them out; throw them out!” Voting days upon us; battles were intense. In the fallout, no one wanted Crooked’s crony (a guy named Michael Pence.). There were other crooked cronies (far too many to be counted). Said the Nation: “Send them all away on ponies, tarred and feathered, propped and mounted! ‘Tis devoutly to be wished, and so we wait the reckoning, working energetically. . . watching Justice beckoning.”
Then, a man called Hitler said: “Though I may be long-since dead, I’ve had many alter egos — some who came before me; some, appearing after. Each had Mein Kampf beside his bed, astonishing the world with dread; each rose to power — and they led, but only for a time. Only for a time. And I, too, watched with interest, and this is what I saw: Like them, I wanted adoration, to be held in fear and awe, the focus of both world and nation. The dogs of Justice may have sought me, but Mea Culpa never found me. Like them, I thought I was above the Law.
In my final resting place, there is no rest. I stoke the fires; I watch them rise, for there are many foolish on this path of coming judgment, coming wrath. Feeding at the public trough, flush with greed and plotting, they gamble with the truth and laugh. With lies, they raise defiance to the skies, betray their people; go to war — embodiments of shame, disgrace — some day, to join me in this place.
