This story is fundamentally human. One could take so many angles with a woman donating one of her kidneys, especially in these polarized times.

She donated one of her kidneys.

I saw a story on ABC about a woman in Texas that donated her kidney to a stranger in New Jersey. CBS Philadelphia described it as follows.

New Jersey man receives kidney donation from Texas stranger – CBS Philadelphia PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The life of a New Jersey man has been changed forever. It’s all thanks to a donation from a complete stranger. Roy McIntosh was in need of a kidney. When his wife, Toshira, turned to social media for support, she found something better — a solution. Heather Schaefer, an Army wife from Texas, offered to give McIntosh one of her kidneys. After months of tests, she was given the green light to become his donor.”I’m just amazed. I’m gonna give you another hug. I can’t believe it was her but I do believe it. She’s real,” McIntosh said. Source: New Jersey man receives kidney donation from Texas stranger – CBS Philadelphia

Imagine if these were the stories we spent more time highlighting how different society would be. I first thought about how selfless, humane, and empathetic this woman is.

This story has several angles. I think the ‘racial’ angle is so important. I do not believe in race, but because we live in a racial society, one in which this social construct has destroyed part of our fabric, I must look through that lens.

For those who try to make pigmentation and hue an issue, this story should show how shallow and foolish it is. The man’s ‘black” relatives were no match, but a white stranger from afar was. Our commonality far exceeds our differences. Those differences do not necessarily break on “racial” lines.

While discussing this story on Politics Done Right, one of our supporters in our chat during the program said, “We are all from one race, the human race,” a good statement to end this post on right now.
