Good day and welcome to DKos Asheville. This is the weekly DKos Asheville Open Thread for Sunday December 17th, 2022.

We offer this space every weekend to give readers a variety of links to local and regional news of interest, and open the floor for comment and discussion. Wishing all a good day from beautiful Western North Carolina.

Dear friends and strangers, DKos Asheville will be on Automatic with minimal direct input from me for the remainder of the year. Randall and Joy Thompson, who worked inside the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in the wake of the 1979 disaster, informed Facing South's 2009 investigation into nuclear safety. The story appeared as the industry was promoting a largely failed plan to build a new generation of reactors at the expense of captive ratepayers in Southern states.
