The eyes have it this month. For me, anyway.

I see three different eye doctors. One for routine yearly eye checkups. A glaucoma specialist, whom I see a few times a year for pressure checks, field of vision tests, and exams. And a doctor who specializes in macular degeneration.

A few weeks ago I went up to see the eye specialist I see for my glaucoma. He told me my cataracts were possibly contributing to my ‘angles’ and that surgery was in the cards in the near future. My eye presssure was 17 in both eyes but he was concerned about my dry eye syndrome and prescribed warm eye compresses each night, eye drops for dry eyes, and a solution to clean the eye. My vision was not as good as it had been the last time I saw him and so he suggested a visit to my optometrist.

That was the appointment I had today. I was certain that she was going to tell me I needed a change in my script. Things have been increasingly blurry for me lately.

The thing I most dislike about eye exams is when they change slides and ask you “Is this clearer?” …. “Or this?” Then they always repeat. “This …. or this.” I never know! For starters, nothing is ever clear; it’s always a matter of me straining to determine what letters are being shown to me, trying to indicate that I’m struggling, and they always say that with my current prescription I have 20/20 vision. The optometrist said today that it’s likely that cataracts and dry eye problems are causing me to have difficulty with vision, and that as far as my glasses go there’s no change indicated.

One of the things I do enjoy about going to this eye doctor is that she always cleans both pairs of my glasses so that the world just sparkles for a few days. I don’t know what the secret is to her methodology but if I could I’d stop there once a week for a cleaning. I see better after seeing her than I do for the rest of the year.

Shingles Vaccination

I was wondering how many of you have gotten the two-part shingles vaccination and if you had any reaction? My friend was in bed for two days after getting part two of shingles and a flu shot on the same day. She got it on Thursday and when I spoke with her yesterday afternoon she still wasn’t 100%.

According to the Shingrix website the most common side effects are:

Pain, redness, and swelling at the injection site

Muscle pain

Tiredness

Headache

Shivering

Fever

Upset stomach

She had all of these plus extreme anxiety on the day after.

Twitter

It’s been two weeks since I closed my Twitter account and I’m still receiving notices about Tweets in my email. Plus I don’t know how I can delete my 2050kids account because it’s linked to a business account that hasn’t been active for several years.

Dipping into Twitter just to see what’s trending this afternoon. The big news items are the Barbie trailer showing with the new Avatar movie and the former guy’s big announcement about his card collection. (Take a look at the prizes!)

Holidays

I finished my holiday wrapping yesterday and continued with my holiday present to myself, which is to declutter my closets, cabinets, and shelves. Took two bags of books to Goodwill and broke down some boxes. I have two broken Macs and two broken printers to take to the recycling center and bags full of clothes to donate. Next on the agenda is dropping off all my expired medication at the fire department or drug store.

Still working on the menu for Christmas Eve but discovered they carry Beyond Beef vegan meatballs at Safeway.

Working out

The gym is getting crowded again. Usually, when I go on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays after lunch, there are four people at the most. Today there were at least eight. It’s still a big enough place for everyone to have their own substantial chunk of personal space and they have a good ventilation system. The owner, who just returned from open heart surgery, has the business up for sale and I’ll feel good for him if he is able to keep it afloat. I just don’t know how safe I’ll feel continuing to go if the numbers keep increasing.

Open Thread

I’m out of news for now. So what’s happening in your world? (I’m really curious to hear if anyone had a severe reaction to the Shingles vaccination.)
