I just wanted to send out a brief update on John in Ghana to let folks know how things are going with him.

John lives in a refugee camp in Ghana. He does what he can to help others there, where the needs are always endless and often horrific.

John collapsed last Thursday from a sudden loss of blood and was rushed to the hospital with no money and no way of getting any. And in Ghana the hospitals do not treat anyone unless they can pay and have paid in advance. So he was in serious trouble. I, of course, did not know this and could not help because he had no way of making contact with the outside world.

Not go go into details, but John managed to reach me last Monday and he is now home. He has had a blood transfusion and has been given medicines and is recovering his strength.

What is long term prognosis is I have no idea but for now he is safe and reasonably well.

To show you what kind of man John is, when he first talked with me after getting home the first thing he brought up was a teen boy he has been helping to go to school who was injured and needed funds for emergency hospital care. John almost died but his first thought was of someone else. I am proud to consider him my friend.

Anyway things are well. I thought everyone would like to know.

Now John and I are working on trying to provide a Christmas meal and perhaps some gifts of clothing, sandals, and so forth for the homeless children in Buduburam who will otherwise struggle even to eat that day, as they struggle on every day. But that is for later, today is just to breathe a sigh of relief for John.

Incidentally the photo above is of John’s little baby boy immediately after birth. It has nothing to do with the story, directly, but I thought it was cute. The boy is now nine years old and doing well.

Thanks to all of those who expressed their concern and gave their prayers and meditations for his well-being
