I'm not an American, but I've lived in America, do business in your country, have many friends there, and countless un-known cousins, and I'm an unabashed America-phile. For all of your problems, Americans are honest and forthright and do try to do the right thing.
So it's with great pleasure that I see Richmond Va is removing the statue of AP Hill. History shouldn't be white-washed and I'd oppose the removal of war memorials, but the removal of 'Lost Cause' memorials that were never designed to remember the sacrifice of those who fought in the Civil War (I had family on both sides, and my namesake was a confederate who ended up a PoW) is a step in the right direction. To me, this is progress in moving the US towards a more perfect union. Sure, there's so many problems right now, but its good to step back and take stock. Only 40 years ago the most popular TV show featured a car called the General Lee and had the Confederate Battle flag painted on its roof. It may not feel like it sometimes, but Americans are moving forward, even if sometimes it feels like baby steps.
Well done Richmond.
