MY TUNDRA PILLOW

This Tundra Swan (Cygnus columbianus) showed up at the Nature Center last Wednesday and has been a star attraction all week.

These birds usually migrate south along the central US flyway, but this one seems to have taken a left turn and ended up in the Rio Grande interstate.

This fellow seems to be right at home with the other geese and waterfowl and will allow photos if you are quite and move slowly.1

Tundra and Gadwall

Here (s)he ?? is making friends with a Gadwall.

Tundra and Mallard

Mallards make friends with everyone — check out the list of hybrids!

Few other nice birds rounded out the morning:

Canada Geese

Canada Geese look good against the golden cottonwoods.

Cooper’s Hawk

Coops are very common in the Albuquerque.

Eastern Bluebird

Some days we see no Bluebirds, but today we saw a dozen or so; a few Western Bluebirds were in the flock but I didn’t get any decent images.

This was our last official guided bird walk this year (with Ms Canyon) at the Nature Center, but the Center will be open regular hours all year.

Today the Tundra Swan was in the pond right against the visitors’ center, and you could sit inside in a comfy chair and watch the bird parade.
