Well, I made it for over a week without using Twitter, but then this morning I was writing a story on the Biodiversity Summit in Montreal and needed some up-to-date news out of the conference, which is not getting much play in US media. (From what I read yesterday, the US isn’t even in attendance. Quite a shock because scientists are saying addressing biodiversity is a surefire way to tackle climate change.)

I haven’t rejoined Twitter, but I did find out that I can embed tweets without being a member, and thanks to a comment in my post here last week I was able to search.

Tomorrow night my friend is coming over for dinner. This is the one who for a few months came every night for dinner because she did not feel comfortable in her living arrangement. She still doesn’t but she’s been doing house and pet-sitting gigs which kept her away from the house. She’s still looking for another place to move and, a year later her former boyfriend of 30 years seems no more willing to compensate her for her share of the life they built together in a southern Marin house that is now valued at $2 million. She’s basically scraping by on her social security and whatever money she can bring in from her sitting gigs.

I had already finished my holiday shopping. Bought way too many presents as usual for my daughter and her partner. A lot of things for the house. Sweaters for her, sweatpants and a top for him. Stocking stuffers.

Then I went up to Larkspur Landing yesterday to walk around with the dog and saw an xs winter coat with an adorable dress under it (also extra small) and it was the most adorable present I could think of to get my daughter. Irresistibly cute. I’m feeling a little guilty because this means that I’ve gotten more gifts for her than for him! But I have to put a stop to shopping NOW!

x Winter this or that ☃️

We’ll be hosting a few friends for a Christmas Eve dinner on the 24th, serving vegan lasagne, gluten-free pasta, salad, gluten-free garlic bread, and tofu meatballs. Dessert is a Buche de Noel and a Key Lime Pie. I got a lovely Christmas runner for the table and red cloth napkins. Christmas crackers for each guest.

I’ve already started wrapping presents so I don’t get stuck with all that wrapping just before Christmas. Had enough paper and ribbon and tape left over from last year.

So now I don’t know what I’m going to do until the 24th! The two nonprofits I write for are in process of designing their websites from the content I wrote. I’m going to participate in the Ukrainian zoom call tomorrow morning and I am seriously considering signing on to be a tutor.

As usual, this is an open thread. Enough of my meanderings. What’s going on in your world?
