Republican Senators had been expecting to be running the Senate come January, expecting to have a majority of 3 or 4 seats. But they failed to unseat any of the incumbent Democratic Senators they targeted, and not only that but they lost a seat in Pennsylvania to John Fetterman. Last night’s too close victory of Raphael Warnock was the last straw for Thune and Romney.

This is the first significant crack in the Senate Republican Big Lie consensus of not challenging Mr. Trump’s preposterous claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him. Trump’s poor choice of candidates, combined with his cult of personality’s unquestioning obedience (the cult leader is NEVER wrong) produced nominees of questionable competence, and others so far out on the far right fringe, that scared off independents, and many traditional Republicans.

As the number two Republican in McConnells Republican minority caucus, Thune has big plans to slash Social Security, and Medicare using raising the debt limit to hold the American economy and government hostage.

By Sharon Zhang The GOP is preparing to use next year’s debt limit talks to potentially hold the economy hostage in order to slash crucial anti-poverty programs like Social Security, according to a new interview with the Senate’s second ranking Republican. Sen. John Thune (R-South Dakota) said that slashing such programs would be a “solution” to the national debt — an issue that Republicans only bring up in regards to liberal or left-leaning proposals and programs. Thune added that threatening a default, which would have catastrophic consequences for the economy and risk triggering a recession, could be a viable option for the party to force the cuts, Bloomberg reports. “Typically, I think there’s been a pretty broad bipartisan understanding that default’s not an option,” Thune said. He then immediately contradicted himself, saying, “but at the same time I think there’s an understanding that this does create an opportunity especially if the pressure’s on one side to deliver that outcome.”

Meanwhile Biden says he wouldn’t get rid of Debt Limit votes, and too many Democrats in congress seem unperturbed by these radical plans.
