Insomniacs' Late Night Vent Hole - Pearl Harbor Edition [1]

Life is full of gopher holes!

This vent-hole (hereinafter known as IVH), if lost or stolen will not be replaced or purchase price refunded. Violation of IVH rules will result in expulsion without refund. A copy of IVH rules can be obtained from one or more members wearing tie-dyed oxford shirts after written requests. Tomorrow marks 81 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor and the entrance of America into the Second World War. I thought it might be fitting to remember this bit of history before some Republican gets all butt hurt and rewrites the story to save their feelings. This was a horrific attack by the Japanese Imperial Navy, it was well planned and executed although their ambassadors in Wahington D.C. missed on the timing of their declaration of war and the attack came first.

Needless to say, FDR called Congress together the very next day to make the formal declaration of war on Japan. Can you imagine if the President tried to call the Congress to order in this way, in this day and age? The Republicans would have blocked all efforts to go to war with Japan and would have stood with the Emperor of Japan against America. Japan would have been able to get the GOP to overthrow the Government that was seeking to declare war on them, The GOP would have been happy to do so, if they thought the Emperor would divvy the country up and put them in charge.

Sadly, the war wasn’t quite over when FDR passed away, the war lasted just a couple more months after his passing. FDR was the ONLY President to serve four terms in office, in spite of having exposed the GOP as an enemy of the people. The GOP went to war against FDR’s policies and that war is ongoing to this day. That’s 81 years of the GOP trying to oppress the people, scheming and plotting to eliminate the safety nets that FDR started and busting the unions and the working man’s rights. They were subtle at first, slipping a bill in here and there into must-pass legislation. Since St. Reagan and every Republican President since, the GOP has gotten bolder with every success. Today, they boldly lie and write legislation behind closed doors. Actually, they have the Koch Brothers think-tank, ALEC write most of the laws and they just sign their names to it and push the laws through without thought of the harm it is doing to the nation. I take that back, they know full well what they are doing and are glad to be doing it!

This country needs another FDR or two or three, to put us back on track to taking care of the people as Government is intended to do. FDR’s regulations need put back in place and modernized for today’s world. The GOP has been deregulating businesses to the point where they seem to be immune to prosecution for crimes against humanity and Mother Earth and the people have no rights at all. This needs to end and end soon!

Just as a side note: My grandparents on my mother’s side had 6 children, four boys and two girls. All four of my uncles are veterans, the eldest brother served on the battleship Missouri and was tall enough to be in the third row as Japan signed the surrender on the deck of his ship, he was a Marine. The second oldest of the brothers served as a navigator on a cargo plane over Europe during WWII, he was also a Marine. The two remaining brothers served in the Air Force during Korea. My Father served in the Army also in Korea, my Stepdad and his brother served in the Navy during Korea. My cousin, (son of the navigator) served in Vietnam driving a tank and I served stateside during Nam. Yes, we are a patriotic family.
