Wuhan lab whistleblower? Is this credible? [1]

The New York Post is reporting that a former VP at EcoHealth, which ran work at the Wuhan lab in China, is saying that he knows that Covid leaked from that lab and was bioengineered.

On the surface, given the man’s ties to EcoHealth and his credentials, this does sound like it warrants Congressional hearings, but maybe others here at Daily Kos can tell me why this isn’t credible.
Since most of us on the Democratic side have dismissed this theory as crackpot, it would behoove us to be the first ones to call for an investigation if there is in fact a credible whistleblower.
And even if it is total bunk, I’m not sure we shouldn’t call for investigation anyway just because it sounds so credible on the surface. As the Jan. 6 committee has shown, the only way to combat misinformation is to confront it detail by detail in a careful, deliberative manner.
I also think the people who are specifically named in this accusation ought to be suing for libel if it isn’t true and I don’t understand why they don’t if the allegations are false.
