Nancy Sinatra: These Boots Are Made For Walkin'

Alright, for this music year, 1966, I had a hard time finding any songs in the top 100, that I truly did not know of, did not like, and felt okay just leaving out. But, to save myself some time, putting this diary together, I will find a few to leave out. We will see how it goes.

As always, feel free to look at the list, here:

en.wikipedia.org/…

This time, I will post the four Beatles hits on the list, first, then, I will start at number 100 on the list, and work my way back towards number 1. That is the way Casey Kasem did it, back in the nineties.

Number 49:

I like the melody for this, the key changes, and the whole thing is well done.

Number 57:

Okay, once again, well written, like the key changes, and the bass guitar, the whole thing is great.

Number 84:

This one is more slow and mellow. Nice harmony. Interesting message, in the lyrics. What is that message, anyway?

Number 90:

This one has such a silly happy tone, the tone of a carefree life:

“And our friends are all aboard. Many more of them live next door. And the band begins to play.”

Number 100:

This one is pretty simple, the first verse tells the whole story, unless I missed something. I heard this so many times, it’s a part of me, so I had to include it.

Number 99:

Hey! This is truly one of my favorites. Nice high pitched sound, keyboard I think, nice singing, nice bass. It’s a happy summer song. Love it.

Number 98:

Hey! This is one of my favorite Motown tunes. Solid.

Number 97:

Hey! Once again, hey! How can some of the best songs of 1966, end up way at the bottom of the rankings? This classic by the Beach Boys, is truly one of the best songs about young love. Pam and I waited, for five years, before we got married. We met in 1972, our wedding was in 1977. Young love, that waits, that was our theme song.

Number 94:

Alright, this one is truly different, than any song I know. Seems to have the flavor of folk music. Great harmony. Up beat, cheerful, and fun.

Number 92:

So lively! I may have heard this tune before, but not played at such a fast pace.

Number 91:

Yes! Lively, positive, young folks who want to take on the world, hungry for all the possibilities. I know this song so well, but did not recognize the title.

Number 87:

Seems like this band (you do know that Gary Lewis is the son of Jerry Lewis, right?) this band did a great Beach Boys style song here, in my opinion. I like the Beach Boys style, and so, this song, is Just My Style.

Number 85:

Fun, light. Fun.

Number 83:

Okay, the melody is played by the bass guitar, then the other guitar, then the keyboard. Once again, part of my life, part of me. That’s why I’m doing this series, to find these old familiar tunes.

Number 82:

This one is a folk song, about the daily grind, with shouts, similar to “Working in the Coal Mine.”

Once again, a part of me.

Number 81:

I had forgotten how good this song is. Extra fun, at the 1:40 mark.

Number 80:

Such a joyful love song. And the high notes are at least equal to Roy Orbison’s.

Number 79:

I had forgotten how great this one is. The singing, the voices, are great. Special treat, at 1:35.

Number 78:

Okay, you see what I mean? I have only skipped over very few songs. When they are this great, this much fun, I cannot skip. This is going to take me all night. (I assemble these diaries on my Saturdays, to post on my Sundays.)

Number 75:

Smooth and mellow.

Number 73:

Basic and classic. What else can I say?

Number 72:

Classic Supremes.

Number 60:

I only heard this once or twice, and I had forgotten how smooth and fun it is. The man’s voice is so precise, sharp and clear.

Number 59:

This was used in an Alka Seltzer ad, back in the sixties.

Number 55:

I think I posted this last week, but this just shows, it was well liked enough, to be on the charts, for both years.

Number 54:

Yes! This one got me, in the first few notes, guitar, then bass guitar, and so on. Once again, a part of me, and, I had forgotten how good it sounds.

Number 53:

Classic Beach Boys, almost equal to Help Me Rhonda.

Number 51:

The definitive Motown dance song.

Number 50:

In recent years, like maybe ten years ago, I figured out that most bands have a road song. Understanding that, explains a lot of songs, that make no sense, otherwise.

This song, seems to me, was the road song, for the band called, Simon and Garfunkel.

Very moody. Maybe their best song. For many bands, their road song is one of their best.

Number 47:

In the real world, there are many thousands of what some call, intelligence operatives, those who gather information, from all around the world, including in the USA. I like to call them, secret agents, because of this song.

Number 45:

I looked this one up:

www.google.com/…

"Crying Time" is a song from 1964 written and originally recorded by the American country music artist Buck Owens. It gained greater success in the version recorded by Ray Charles, which won two Grammy Awards in 1967. Numerous other cover versions have been performed and recorded over the intervening years.

I thought it sounded rather country. But Ray Charles got the Grammys.

Number 40:

The sound track of my life, includes this one, for sure.

Number 37:

Yes, the sound track of my life, has this song, as well. Over the top silly love song, but who listens to the lyrics?

Number 33:

Fancy electronics, make for Good Vibrations.

Number 25:

This song was written by Paul Simon.

Number 24:

I listened to this one so many times, I am almost tired of it. But, I could not leave it out.

Number 20:

This one has such clear, precise singing. Well done. And, it’s a happy song.

Number 15:

This is better than I remembered it. Once again, the singing is so precise, so clear.

Number 14:

Such a happy song! And, once again, the singing is so clear, so precise. Man.

Number 13:

Such classic Motown. Mama said, “You Can’t Hurry Love.”

Number 11:

“One Two Three!”

genius.com/…

I was feelin' so bad

I asked my family doctor just what I had

I said "Doctor (Doctor), Mr. M.D. (Doctor)

Now can you tell me what's ailin' me?" (Doctor) He said, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah"

Yes indeed, all I, I really need

[Chorus]

Good lovin', now gimme that good, good lovin'

Good lovin', all I need is lovin'

Good lovin', good, good lovin', baby

Good lovin'

[Verse 2]

Honey, please squeeze me tight (squeeze me tight)

Don't you want your baby to be all right? (be all right)

I said baby (baby), "Now it's for sure (it's for sure)

I got the fever, yeah, and you got the cure"

Fun!

Number 9:

Seems like an anti-drug addiction song. I like that.

Number 8:

Okay, we have old school, rat pack, Sinatra, invading the pop charts. But look out, his daughter is here, as well. She is why I chose the image for this diary.

Number 6:

Yes, women’s liberation. My three older sisters acted liberated, like the ladies in this video, before 1970, when Women’s Liberation was sort of announced, as I recall. I know, women are not exactly liberated, still. Tonia told me some stories about that.

Number 4:

Nice, lively tune, well done.

Number 2:

Okay, if I get myself an electronic keyboard, I can play this song, all day long, just for fun. If I could get someone to sing, we could go to a club, and fake it.

Number 1:

“All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey.”

I think I could sing that song, all the way through, since I have heard it so many times.

Once again, here is the source for all this:

en.wikipedia.org/…

Enjoy as many songs as you have time and patience for.

Hugs.
