Covid effects

Covid discovered in January, 2020, and by February a public health emergency was declared in the U.S. After nearly three years the grim statistics are: World, 650 million cases, 6.6 million deaths. U.S., 101 million cases, 1.1 million deaths. The old ways of living have been up-ended dramatically, even to political upheaval in China caused by pandemic restrictions. This is common knowledge, but each of us have been affected in different ways. Some are dramatic; some are even humorous.

Mask-wearing has become contentious, saving lives vs. political statements.

Takeout food has become ubiquitous.

We became aware of Dr. Fauci, the CDC, and the WHO, and their importance

Not always necessary to work in an office; home works as well.

Wearing masks gives flu protection.

Wash your hands, like your mother told you.

Toilet paper is the most important thing.

Stock up on food if possible, especially pasta

Supply chains are a real thing, and susceptible to failure.

Socialization is very important for mental health.

Public facilities always have clean chairs and doorknobs.

Don’t hug or even touch anyone.

Teachers have a vital job. Parents are aware.

job. Parents are aware. Dress with decency; someone is seeing you on Zoom.

That list covers only a small number of changes wrought by a pandemic. We are retired and thus were less affected than some, though the lack of face-to-face socializing was significant and made us realize how important it is. We did increase our outdoor activities, hiking narrow paths while carefully stepping off as we passed others, masked or not.

What were some of the changes in your life caused by covid? Will they be permanent? Any new insights?

This is an open thread; discuss anything, especially food!
