Chief Justice High-Endurance Cutter Thirty-seven

Rather than write the names of the actual intended recipients (black Robes, gutted Roe), I will leave the address blank

The legacy of the United States Supreme Court lies quayside just over an hour’s drive from 1 First Street. Designated U.S.C.G. High-Endurance Cutter 37 (WHEC 37), she is one of America’s most honored vessels, yet she has no name.

WHEC 37 is the last floating survivor of the battle of Pearl Harbor, yet she has no name.

WHEC 37 served in both main theaters of WW2, earning three battle stars, yet she has no name.

WHEC 37 stood station after the war in the remotest parts of the ocean, opening up the world through transoceanic air travel, yet she has no name.

WHEC 37 served in the Korean Conflict, the war in Vietnam, and for a full fifty years before her decommissioning in 1986, yet she has no name.

WHEC 37 is designated as a National Landmark and in the Register of Historic Places, yet…

Of course, she has a name. It’s just not written on her bow, or her transom anymore. It was painted over two years ago because her namesake so defiled the office he held that no one could bear to look at it.
