I can’t help it. I spent a good many of my years living in the state, and have great friends there still— and lots of wonderful memories.
I was a cheerleader at the county neighboring Walker’s when he became a star runningback. I swear he looked like a refrigerator running down the field. He dwarfed everyone.
The story of his life was well known among our close knit community, but physically impressive as he was, Herschel never grew beyond the role fate had cast him, and he is capable today of only flailing.
I get GOTV text messages about the upcoming runoff regularly, and reply to lend my encouragement and support. As a now NC resident I can’t vote in Georgia, though I understand Mark Meadows, tffg’s former Chief of Staff approves that method.
Still I do what I can, and I know y’all are doing that, too.
An example of how we can and do engage
The contrast between Walker and Warnock is perceptible, and in his short tenure, the reverend has already made a difference.
Tuesday will tell and it’s beyond comprehension we won’t usher him in to retain that office. That said, I still can’t quite believe it went to a runoff— but I’m aware of the barriers and blocking of the voters and the vote that are prevalent in the state.
We have to keep at it, keep chipping away, keep forward progress and momentum. The alternative is simply too unbearable to imagine.
