AGREATGIFTTOHUMANISTICVALUES

First, the image above is not mine, but I could not find in DK the author. I hope that I get corrected, and someone tells me who he/she is.

I was born in Costa Rica. My mother was raised in a pig farm owned by his parents. The farm was high in the mountains, in a town named Turrialba. It was not close to the Capital San Jose; my grandfather would travel in a horse driven cart to sell his wares and buy stuff needed for his family, they had six children, six boys and six girls. My grandparents were avid readers, and my grandfather always brought many books from his trip. The classics, history, science, etc.

My mother was raised like that, to love books. To make the story short, when I was about 4 years old, I visited my grandparents about twice a month and my grandfather would read to me from these gorgeous Fairy Tales books that my aunt had bought. Very large print and beautiful drawings by Emilio Freixas. One time when I was 5 years old, my grandad told me “I am not going to continue reading to you, you should learn how to read yourself. I was very unhappy but somehow because when he read to me, I looked at the printed words, I had started to learn how to read. By five and a half years old I could read anything. I especially loved Jules Verne.
