Since the election earlier this month, the stories have been pouring out about how the Republican Party wants to get rid of Trump. I have no doubt that this is true. I have no doubt that the GOP would have preferred Jeb! had gotten the nomination in 2016 (they gave him $100 million to do best Trump).

The reality is that the Republican Party does not control Trump. Trump doesn’t care if former Mike Pence aide Mark Short doesn’t like him.

Short told CNN that “since the election in 2020, I think the [former] president’s descended deeper into the heart of darkness here.” Short continued, “I think it’s a big challenge [and] another reason Republican are looking in a different direction in 2024.”

The GOP is looking at DeSantis, Chris Christie, Mike Pence, among others.

Just like in 2016, Trump will consolidate his base of support and the rest of Republican primary voters will be spread their votes out across the other candidates. Trump wins with 30 percent or less, and glides to the nomination.

So ignore the stories about how the Republican party is going to move on from Trump. Trump is making money, staying out of prison, and stroking his ego, he’s not going anywhere.
