We have a new project today, thanks to Eastern Bluebird, who has been keeping an eye on it. It’s running out of time and needs to get finished this week. But it has matching funds, so that is certainly possible, if we can pay it down enough to attract the interest of other donors to help us.

The project will bring a wonderful list of books to an Alabama fifth grade, and the match is from Seed to Read: Seed to Read is a partnership between The Kirkpatrick Family, AKJ Education, DonorsChoose, and you. The program is designed to put collections of beloved stories and undiscovered favorites into classroom libraries. We want to get books into the hands of students in need to nurture a love of reading and create lifelong learners.

Economic need: An Equity Focus School; more than half of students from low‑income households. Our longer-term project has been making good progress. These El Paso middle-school students will love working with Lego’s Spike Prime robotics kits, whenever we finally get it fully funded.

YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS before you choose when to donate (thanks to Eastern Bluebird). This is THIS TUESDAY:

Here at DonorsChoose, the holidays mean creating big moments to invest in kids and teachers. That’s why I’m thrilled to give you a very special heads up about GivingTuesday: On November 29th, every single donation to every single project will be doubled.

PROJECT #2 Project: Enhancing STEM Knowledge and Skills Resources: Help me give my students Lego Spike Prime robotics kits to enhance their STEM knowledge and skills. Economic need: An Equity Focus School; nearly all students from low‑income households. Location: Guillen Middle School, El Paso, Texas Total: $954.65 Still Needed: $ 586.12 $511.12 Project description by Dr. Morales: My students are lifelong learners and have an incredible amount of energy. They are very inquisitive and enjoy applying mathematics and science to real world examples. Robotics allows them to do so. The Lego Spike Prime robotics kits will allow my students to enhance their STEM knowledge and skills with an authentic example. The Spike Prime robotics kits would also put my students on a trajectory towards college and career readiness. My students will utilize the engineering design process to document their robotics experience. In addition, they will make presentations to our school community. The acquisition of these Lego Spike Prime robotics kits would be a win-win for our students and school community. DONATE HERE Donations of ANY size can make a BIG difference! Our first project from last week was completed, with lots of help from our readers! Project #1, Ninja-fied and Understanding Our Feelings: Mrs. Williams needed some books for her North Carolina second grade that would help them learn about feelings and how to manage them. Although she has not yet seen the project-completion message, she wrote as an individual donor note (my bold): Thank you so much for your gift to our classroom! You are beyond generous. I know my students will love learning life lessons from the ninjas and will get my reluctant readers on the reading train! Thank you to Daily Kos for featuring our project! We are so thankful to those who use their platform to help teachers and classrooms in need. We are forever grateful! In addition, we have a note to share from a project last time that was completed late in the week, Building Vocabulary One Word at a Time: Ms. Garrow needed materials for her North Carolina middle school students, to help them develop their vocabulary and grammar skills. She writes: I would like to thank you for making this dream come true. I look forward to helping my scholars grow their vocabulary and your donation has helped to make this possible.

Without donors like you our class would have less resources to use. Your help means the world to us.

DonorsChoose has developed the designation Equity Focus Schools to describe some schools that submit projects. They meet two criteria: at least 50% of students are Black, Latinx, Native American, Pacific Islander, or multiracial, and at least 50% of students qualify for free or reduced price lunch, the standard measure for school economic need. You can read more at the link about their efforts to address the longstanding inequity in education.

Founded in 2009, The Inoculation Project combats the anti-science, anti-education push in conservative America by funding science, math, and literacy projects in red-state public school classrooms and libraries. Our conduit is DonorsChoose, a crowdfunding charity founded in 2000 and highly rated by both Charity Navigator and the Better Business Bureau.

Every Sunday, we focus on helping to fund projects in neighborhood public schools where the overwhelming majority of students come from low-income households. We welcome everyone who supports public school education — no money is required!

Finally, here’s our list of successfully funded projects — our series total is 1003! The success-list diary also contains links and additional information about DonorsChoose.
