Of course, there has been “progress”, depending on how you define it. For example:
After Donald Trump announced his candidacy for President in 2024, the DOJ announced appointment of a special counsel to investigate him. (Polite golf clap.)
The trials of figures including leadership in the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers continue on.
(Insert your other items here; that’s all I’ve got.)
The progress that has still not been achieved is:
The people who plotted and took actions to overthrow the 2020 election, at the leadership level, being held to account (i.e. those above the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, as well as other key actors such as those who impersonated fake Electoral College electors). Pretty much...any of them.
We’re now at 22 (almost 23) months since January 6, 2021.
I write these blogs because:
As time passes, we are in danger of normalizing the fact that this conspiracy has gone un-cracked by the DOJ. We get used to it. We no longer expect anything to happen. We get more excited by the latest events, like, “Look what Elon Musk is doing at Twitter now!”
