The following explanation of the history of the is from the About section (see above link) of their website:
Stone Quarry Art Park is a private, not-for-profit contemporary outdoor art space founded in 1991. We believe everyone should have access to art and the outdoors. In addition to working with visiting artists to shape and re-shape the landscape of Stone Quarry Hill, the Park is open to the public every day of the year, from dawn to dusk.
Stone Quarry stewards the Hilltop House, the historic home and studio of artist Dorothy Riester. Visitors are encouraged to look in the windows of this mid-century modern, hand-crafted structure. Guided tours are available by reservation during the summer.
Stone Quarry Art Park resides on the ancestral land of the People of the Standing Stone of Onyota’a:ká [Oneida]. We acknowledge the painful history of settler colonialism, genocide, and forced removal from this territory, and we honor and respect the many diverse Indigenous Peoples still connected to this land. We express gratitude to those who have lived and worked here before us, and to the Indigenous Peoples who call Upstate New York home.
Mr. CNY took a day hike through the art park earlier this month so the photo credits go to him. There are more on the website.
This looks to be at a different angle of the same installation as a photo near the top of the diary. Mr. CNY was at work while I wrote the diary so I couldn’t get details.
I especially like this tree trunk with roots. Reminds me of our discussions here about “stumperies”.
I’m making this diary a bit of an open thread given the long holiday weekend, so please post any photos you have from interesting parks, hiking areas, etc. And also from your gardens if your weather still permits and from any indoor gardening goings on.
And thanks, as always, for visiting.
