I’m entertaining for Thanksgiving today and so won’t be around to host KTK this evening. How was everyone’s dinner this year? Any problems with RW family members or friends? Any culinary mishaps?

It’s been a busy week of shopping and organizing for my eight guests. I pick up the turkey Thursday morning (pre-cooked, only have to warm it up for a few hours). Other than supplying the turkey, salad greens, and drinks and making the cranberry sauce, I don’t have that much to do with the meal itself. Guests are bringing the side dishes and desserts.

We have one vegan, two gluten intolerant, and two vegetarians coming. The vegan is bringing a tofu roast, candied yams, stuffing, and a non-vegan cherry pie for dessert (it’s her favorite pie so she’s going to allow herself a little slip). My daughter is bringing mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, and a homemade apple pie. We also have a pumpkin pie and a key lime pie coming.

This is the same group that traditionally gets together on Thanksgiving. My vegan friend always comes over Wednesday to help set the table and write out the place cards in her beautiful calligraphy. We always do facial kits while we are working.

Still, there’s was so much prep work. Little odds and ends: errands to pick up random stuff, de-cobwebbing the cooler on the deck and filling it with ice for the soft drinks. de-cluttering the living room. Finding guest towels for the bathroom. Shopping for soft drinks. Picking up the turkey at 8 am this morning.

Exhausting.

So how many of you have quit Twitter since it has been under new ownership? I quit Sunday night. I haven’t been active on Twitter for some time, using it only for posts here at DK, so I’m not going to miss it that much. I joined a climate justice group on Mastodon. I read in a thread in a diary here Sunday night that a good number of folks at DK have joined but I don’t know how to find anyone.

Holiday Shopping

As usual, I started my Christmas shopping for my daughter and her partner way too early. Online. Got them placemats and napkins and an oilcloth tablecloth for their outside table. A faux fur throw. A board game. I still have to get them individual gifts and stuff for their stockings. I’m not going to try not to overshop this year.

I don’t know how to fill this space up now that I don’t have Twitter! And I don’t use youtube. So talk amongst yourselves and here’s wishing you a happy Thanksgiving weekend.
