God bless America

There was a credible and incisive guest on the PBS Newshour in the summer who stated countries that go under the waves of fascism usually have about a ten year period of time in which the strangling writhing of authoritarianism either overtakes them or they shake it off.

Sounds right, I’ve stated a thousand times the well-observed takeover of fascism is a creep, it does not happen at all in a sudden flash, many small failures and regressive changes eventually lead to dead women who couldn’t get an abortion and littered assault rifle corpses all over the place, the land of the free didn’t really work out for them, did it?

That would mean in this year of our Lord 2022 we are in year seven of the possible fascism window for the United States of America, it would have to start in 2015, the incredible year Trump got nominated when the Republican Party and American journalism corps utterly failed as that orange felon got the Republican nomination.

Should anyone scoff at the notion the world’s oldest democracy is wobbly on the rails Trump took office only because of a broken American “democracy” mechanism that barfed in the loser, only to then have that felon declare in 2020 he had won after losing again and tried a fascist takeover of the election January 6th. Hang Mike Pence!

Wobbly all the way, American democracy was fumbled over to a new real democracy President and the urgent question soon came to the fore: what do we do with that flaming criminal who tried to smash American democracy and still has the power to do so?

Prosecuting him on day one–which easily could have been done for the obstruction of justice charges in Robert Mueller’s flaming failure report–has been and is instantly ruled out of the question, even if the orange felon blob commits more crimes with classified documents. Takes a dedicated fascist to commit office crimes while in fact out of office, you know?

Attorney General Garland obviously loathes the idea of prosecuting Trump and fervently hopes events and news somehow strangles Trump of its own accord. The delaying tactic was used again this week when Garland appointed a special prosecutor to take on the task of maybe-sorta charging Trump with many felonies.

There are many regressive elements to this awful decision, but a primary urgent question is whether this decision facilitates the opening of the American fascism window of 2015-2025 or helps close it.

It can only be a disaster of wedging the window open further, not prosecuting Trump makes an utter infuriating joke of the rule of law, gleefully encourages other felon fascists to commit democracy crimes, gives him a real patina of invincibility and of course leaves him free to do further fascist creep damage. Every single day that orange blob felon walks free increases the risk of American fascism takeover, that is an immutable fact.

It also has that little political cultural perception that Democrats are weak wannabe-males who can’t fight. “Democrats are wimps,” Martina Navratolova said on Twitter. Ever wonder why the Democratic Party does so poorly with men as a voting bloc? Golly gee what could it be?

It’s a risk, a wedge in the wrong direction, the decision does not mean the fascism takeover is all upon us or American Democracy is done for, far from it, as Jennifer Rubin recently wrote in the Washington Post there were many shining good signs of American democracy in Election 2022, chiefly the defeat of all fascist election-deniers and wherever possible the enshrinement of abortion rights.

Still, the appointment of Jack Smith as special prosecutor is a nauseating, worrisome development, American democracy is wobbly as hell and at real total risk of regressing into complete failure. The Judicial Branch is already busted and a brutal, ruthless force of regression, the electoral college is still not fixed, gerrymandering has overtaken many State legislatures while the blathering, infuriating American journalism corps decided they were the the new Houdini and predicted the future for Election 2022, way to go, god.

Prosecuting Trump of course presents political problems, but whatever those could be how could they possibly pale before the duty of upholding the law, democracy and your Party? I basely don’t understand this decision of delay, and worriedly watch in Year Seven of the Fascism window that it could easily put the country in a terrible chasm of risk and danger.
