So… big Traditional Thanksgiving? Hosting for 8 people with a turkey and all the fixings, then watching a game? Throw the younger crowd into a car, and have them go to the movies?

Just a day to yourself, maybe a few other people, order in some food, go to the movies?

Planning on hitting the stores that have super special sales on Thanksgiving?

Sitting around after the big Turkey meal, maybe go to the movies?

DON’T DO IT.

Every sale you hit, every food you order in, every movie you go out to see, you are making someone work. On a holiday.

And if you don’t like being made to work on a holiday, how can you make others work?

There will always be those who still work, because to keep our non-farm economy going, we need a lot of people who will work. The image of thanks, to those who must work, forgets the IT people who keep the lights on and the water running and the tv going, and all of that. So we may have comfort of staying at home.

My significant other will be working at their job, running a gas station kiosk for King Soopers, until 4 pm. I see it as needed, as I imagine a family getting ready for a 2-3 hour drive to the relative who is hosting a big Thanksgiving feast. Get the car loaded with people, things, and the casserole you are bringing, to find the car is running on empty. To know there is a gas station open, might be a big help to a lot of people.

However, do not go to the movies. It is not needed and you are only making people work. And when the bosses see that people did go out on Turkey Day, they like to make even bigger plans for next year. And the workers are not all 17 year olds happy to escape the kiddy table at grandma’s house.

Do not go to the store, unless it is an emergency. And do it as early in the day as possible. Again, the numbers will tell a story, so you do not want to add to that set of numbers.

Whether you think it is a good holiday or not, whether you celebrate or not, it is supposed to be a day of Not Working. Do not make others work. Do not go to the movies on Thanksgiving.
