Kyle Rittenhouse cried on the witness stand a year ago, but he's all smiles now after being embraced by the GQP
A year after being acquitted of homicide in the shooting deaths of two protesters in 2020 in Kenosha, Wis., Kyle Rittenhouse was being feted in Washington, D.C. by House Republican members of the Second Amendment Caucus.
On Thursday evening, Rittenhouse met with the gun nuts caucus at a gathering at the office of the Conservative Partnership Institute near the U.S. Capitol.
Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Thomas Massie of Kentucky are the co-chairs of the Second Amendment Caucus.
“It was an honor to have Kyle join the Second Amendment Caucus. He is a powerful example of why we must never give an inch on our Second Amendment rights, and his perseverance and love for our country was an inspiration to the caucus,” Boebert told The Hill in a statement.

Rittenhouse was all smiles about the meeting.
“I’m 19 and just got to speak with leaders of the greatest country on earth! This was an amazing evening where I got to share my story and discuss the importance of the Second Amendment. Even while the radical left continues to sue me and disparage my name, I know these great leaders have my back,” Rittenhouse said in a statement.
He is facing a civil lawsuit brought against him by the parents of Anthony Huber whom Rittenhouse, then 17, fatally shot with an AR-15 style rifle during a street protest in Kenosha on Aug. 25, 2020. Protests had erupted in the Wisconsin city after the police shooting of a black man, Jacob Blake.
Rittenhouse fatally shot Joseph Rosenbaum, who had run after him, and Huber, who attempted to use his skateboard to knock the rifle out of Rittenhouse’s hands.He also wounded Gaige Grosskreutz, who police said was holding a pistol.
On Nov. 19, 2021, a Kenosha jury unanimously found Rittenhouse not guilty of all the charges that he faced, including intentional homicide and endangering safety. His lawyers argued that Rittenhouse acted in self-defense.
After his acquittal, Rittenhouse became a celebrity in right-wing circles. He worked on a film interview project with Fox News host Tucker Carlson, met Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, and was treated like a rock star at events sponsored by the conservative group Turning Point USA.
So what’s next for Rittenhouse? Some right-wing lawmakers, including Reps. Matt Gaetz of Florida and Paul Gosar of Arizona, have floated the idea of making Rittenhouse an intern. And then there’s Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.

And maybe Rittenhouse has his sites set about running for Congress himself when he reaches the minimum age of 25. He posted a picture of himself standing in front of the Capitol with the caption: “T-minus 5 years until I can call this place my office?” But given Twitter’s problems with verification check marks, we really can’t be sure whether this was an actual message from Rittenhouse. or a parody account.
