Tomorrow will be seven years since my oldest and dearest died. I still miss him.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Autumn Leaves, in the styles of various classical composers. Yeah, I know I did this one last week. I like it.
Old maps online.
Lightning and moonlight. From NASA’s photographic archive.
An inscription on an ancient comb is believed to be the world’s oldest written sentence.
Jess Wade has written more than 1750 Wikipedia articles about women and minority scientists. I approve. I also wonder how many of them have been “edited” by rwnjs from both sides of the Atlantic.
A study on the origin and history of cats — specifically, their migration into Europe.

I had a chiropractic appointment scheduled for the 12th, and it was canceled due to something my chiropractor needed to do. It was rescheduled to the 17th, which was canceled due to transportation problems on my end. I now am going in on the 22nd. I hope that one doesn’t fall through.

The car has a new battery. It died on me again when I was picking up my grandson, and then wouldn’t start the next morning. My daughter came home and called AAA to jump the car, then took it to the dealer and got a new battery, came home and went back to work.
She had been saving to get the front brakes fixed and wasn’t happy that she had to use that money for a battery. I told her I could afford to pay for the brakes, and ended up having to argue her into it. I think what made her decide to let me do it was reminding her that I view air-conditioning as a safety feature.
The brake appointment is 7:00 AM tomorrow. She thought that was funny; I think she forgets that I’m the one who’s routinely awake at 5:30. I ended up going to the store and buying a prepaid VISA card for her to use. I told her it’s her Christmas — and maybe birthday — present. She may still want me to go to the appointment with her.

I’ve had a couple of power flickers this past week. I finally realized that one of them had affected my alarm clock, so I had to reset it. Persnickety little beast, but at least it isn’t 10 minutes off every other clock in the place.

Love you guys!
