Seriously, guys. Give the Garland bashing a rest, it’s old hat. “Yadda yadda why hasn’t XYZ happened yet” something something. Yeah, we get it. You wanted Trump locked up in 2016, if not sooner, presumably retroactive to like 1950 or something.

Our legal system doesn’t work that fast, and let’s face it, people with money can force delay after delay. That’s not special to Trump, just special to any asshat with enough cash to throw at lawyers can throw monkey wrenches into things for months or years. And investigations, as much as everyone thinks it works like CSI or Law & Order where everything is wrapped up with a neat little airtight bow within an hour with time to spare for character development — yeah no. Doesn’t work like that. Hell, before she died earlier this year, my mother-in-law had a court date for a traffic accident that was set two years in advance and was still a year away when she died. And that was after MORE than a year of back and forth between the various lawyers and insurance companies haggling and investigating and interviewing and filing paperwork.

And as the saying goes, “if you’re going to shoot at the King, you’d better kill the King.” You’d rather a slapdash job and Agent Orange ends up acquitted on a technicality? Really?

But JFC, any post about Garland is like catnip to the Doom n’ Gloomers here on Dkos. Oh, woe is us, Garland is deliberately slow walking, Garland is a secret Trumpist, Garland is a coward, blah blah blah. Yeah, we’ve heard it all before, try flipping to side B, maybe you’ll find some new material.

And maybe consider this: yeah, a special prosecutor might cause a delay of a few months. You know what Trump’s going to be doing during that time? Attacking DeSantis and any Republican that pisses him off or looks like they might try to challenge him. Railing against how FOX News has betrayed him. I guess I don’t see the problem with that. The bastard isn’t President anymore, so it’s not as if he actually has any real power now. His preferred candidates almost universally went down in flames during the midterms. Let him beat his chest and whine and play the victim, because in doing so all he’s really doing is sowing chaos in the ranks of the Republican Party.

Relax. It’s the weekend. Get a cup of tea or coffee or something and watch it snow. Or not, depending on where you’re at. Something is happening, and even if it’s not exactly what you want, it shows that things ARE happening. The same people screaming about a special prosecutor are the same people that have been screaming “BuT wHy WoN’t GaRlAnD dO sOmEtHiNg??!?” and now when he DOES something….yeah, whatever guys. We get it. Merrick Garland is the antichrist or something. We don’t need 4,000 comments in every goddamned diary about DoJ and Trump in that vein. Take that time and go pet the cat or throw a ball for the dog or something. It’ll make the dog or cat happy and be infinitely more constructive in the end.
