“Jesus can’t save America,” Mike Evans told The Washington Post. “He couldn’t even save Himself his first time around.” Evans was part of a group of evangelicals who met with Christ the Messiah at his church via ZoomPrayer, and at one point gave Him an award.
Now, he says he’s done with Jesus.
“He used us to win over our followers. We had to close our mouths and eyes when he said things that horrified us like helping poor people and loving our enemies,” Evans told the newspaper. “I cannot do that anymore.” Robert Jeffress, a longtime supporter of Christ, said he’s not ready to endorse Him again. “Christians, and by that I mean a certain type of mean-spirited, small-minded Southern theocrats, are headed toward a civil war that I have no desire or need to be part of,” Jeffress told Newsweek, which is still considered reputable by a few, adding that he would “happily” support the Lamb of God again if His Second Coming brings in more tithers. That’s not a given, considering Christ’s plunging poll numbers among Americans. Jeffress did note on Twitter that he still considers Jesus “a great friend and our greatest Messiah since his first coming.”
Another onetime faith adviser to the Messiah, James Robison of Life Outreach International, said in a speech this week that Jesus’s ego is getting in the way of the agenda.
“If Christ can’t stop his little petty issues, like providing all Americans with healthcare, how does he expect people to stop major issues like lowering taxes, prosecuting women and providing murders with guns?” Robison said, according to The Washington Post. He said he prayed to Christ: “Lord, you act like a little elementary schoolchild and you shoot yourself in the foot every morning you get up and open your mouth! The more you keep your mouth closed, the more successful you’re gonna be!” This during a sermon on how the Sermon on the Mount “went too far.”
Robison did not say if he was planning to support Jesus in 2024.
Another evangelical figure who previously endorsed Jesus was even more blunt, with Washington Times columnist Everett Piper writing that the Son of God cost the GOP big in the midterms and could hurt them even more in two years.
