Mike Pence is trying to straddle the fence so damn hard, I’m surprised his hips haven’t dislocated by now.
I’ve lived next door to Indiana most of my life & have family ties there so that’s my perspective. I was in the same room with him once in Iraq but I was still furious with him and his junket companions, John McCain & Lindsey Graham, for the photo-op stunt they had pulled the day before in Baghdad.
I’m furious again after his high-handed statement about the J6 committee having no right to his testimony. Furious, but not surprised, because the little Christo-fascist (or Christian Nationalist or Holy Roller) has always been about advancing himself by hitching a ride on whatever cart he believed would carry him there. He demonstrates a self-delusion that he is divinely-ordained to make this country Christian even if it means the subjugation of every god-rotting one of us. He will never stop aspiring to be President. And for a contemporary Republican, the only path to the Presidency is through the Electoral College.
That’s right, Mr. Pence, who is at least capable or rudimentary math, realizes that 200,000 votes spread across seven swing states is a much lower hurdle to clear than 7 million votes nationwide. I will credit him with at least enough brain wattage to realize the half-baked coup plotting he’d witnessed (and most likely participated in somewhat) would ultimately fail and the tumult would finally sweep away slavery’s legacy, Article II, Section 1, Clause 2 &3, in the post-insurrection reforms. Anyway, that’s my theory.
He needs money to further his ambitions, therefore, the book deal. He also needs some base within the Republican Party to win primaries, hence Pence on the fence. Personally, having spent my working life as a police officer and soldier, I can’t imagine why someone would believe that people who tried to kill you would come around to voting for you but then I’ve never had a politician’s ego.
So, there we have Mike Pence on the fence between right & wrong...not for love of country or the Constitution, just love of himself.
