On January 6, Donald Trump aided and abetted the violent mob that attacked the U.S. Capitol with the intention of stopping the legal certification of the 2020 presidential election. Trump sought to intimidate state officials into reversing election results in their states. He recruited the violent mob. He encouraged and incited them to take action against the government, even though he knew the crowd was heavily armed . He deliberately chose not to act, refusing to call in the National Guard or any other law enforcement to assist the overwhelmed Capitol police.
The U.S. Constitution clearly disqualifies Donald Trump from becoming president. Further, ballot disqualification for the January 6 insurrection is not unprecedented. Courts have already ruled that January 6 insurrectionists can be barred from office .
There are ongoing efforts , led by Democratic Rep. David Cicilline of Rhode Island, to pass legislation that would bar Trump from office under the 14th amendment . Sign on to support Rep. Cicilline's efforts!
