NBC has just declared that the GOP has won control of the House of Representatives.

The Republicans secured the 218 seats needed to claim a majority when CA-CD 27 was called for Republican Mike Garcia over Democrat Christy Smith..

NBC is now projecting that Republicans will have a majority of 221 seats to 214 for the Democrats, plus or minus two seats.

NBC has called 218 House races for Republicans, while Democrats had 210 seats. Seven races remain uncalled — four of them in California,

Earlier Wednesday, Democratic Rep. Jared Golden was declared the winner over Republican Bruce Poliquin in Maine CD-2 which was decided by ranked-choice voting.
