Kick 'em while they're down: Democrats can yoink the Pennsylvania House from the GOP in overtime [1]

But we know for a certainty that Republicans, already enraged that Pennsylvania’s maps are no longer rigged in their favor, will wage the bloodiest battle imaginable to hang on to those two seats with their dying breaths. There will be fights over provisional ballots, then recounts, then legal challenges, and then more legal challenges. It will be a very costly affair, which is why our friends in the Pennsylvania Democratic Party have once again asked us for help.

They know that if anyone understands the stakes, it’s the members of this community. You gave generously to support the 10 House candidates Daily Kos endorsed to flip GOP seats, half of whom have already been successful. We also backed the final two Democrats who are awaiting their fate, Mark Moffa and Missy Cerrato. Now is not the time to give up on them.

There’s also a completely wild wrinkle you should know about, too. One member of the Democratic caucus, state Rep. Summer Lee, just won election to Congress in the Pittsburgh area. But get this: The vote for Pennsylvania House speaker is on the same day as the vote for U.S. House speaker! Democrats in Harrisburg may need Lee’s vote to ensure a majority—and if Nancy Pelosi can work her magic and pick off a few non-crazy Republicans (something seriously in the works), she’ll need Lee’s vote a few hours later as well.

Yes, this real-life Cannonball Run could actually happen, and rest assured, everyone involved is already plotting it out in meticulous detail. Just how epic would that be? But for it to even be necessary, we simply have got to get Pennsylvania Democrats over the top.
