Hi Gang,

so, starting next Sunday I’m changing things with this diary again. Going forward it will be:

White House Picture of the Day for November 20th, 2022

Obviously the date changes each day. Why am I doing this? It’s now taking me an hour to set up one weeks worth of these diaries, last week I spent just over two hours making the diaries that go up to next Saturday. That’s crazy for a diary that has a couple of pictures and a word of the day.

The format for image compression is changing across the internet from .jpg to other formats such as .webp and .heic and DKos has not caught up to these changes, neither of those new formats can be uploaded to the image gallery. When I download the image for the top of the page I have to convert it to .jpg before I can upload it here, that takes time (fortunately Flickr, who archives the White House images, is still using .jpg).

The site that does the Word of the Day only posts one every 2 or 3 days. When I started adding Word of the Day I went way back in time and have finally caught up. The words have also gotten more recognizable, maybe they are running out of words? I don’t know. Here are some resent words I’ve skipped: Keystone, Accreditation, Laudable, Quagmire and Existential. There are couple this week that I did use that you will probably recognize. So, I’m semi-retiring Word of the Day. What I will start doing is posting it as a comment once or twice a week, that way I won’t run out of words.

I just created the diary for the 20th, took me about 2 minutes to create, much better.
