When the offers started coming in to buy my house, I took a look around to see where else I might like to live. I fell in love with a small, old neighborhood in Nashville called Germantown.

There are sidewalks throughout this neighborhood!

A great mix of new and old buildings.

You can walk to shops, stores, and restaurants.

Beautiful old houses.

Walk to get a cupcake?! Oh, wait a minute, this neighborhood may be too dangerous for me. Yikes.

I love this place! Yeah, the houses are very close together or actually touching, but… to me it’s just so beautiful and you can get out and go anywhere. Sadly, houses here start at 1.4 million.

I live in a somewhat unique place right now. At the end of a cul de sac, I live on 2 acres. There are only 4 houses here and they all have land too. There are no sidewalks. There are a few places I can walk to that are a mile away, but I usually feel like throwing up when I get there. (It’s a very hilly area.)

Here’s the thing though, I don't have any curtains on my windows, I don’t need them. Ok, well, I do have some decorative window coverings. I have a really nice one in my bathroom that blocks some of the sun that comes beating in.

My den upstairs and the one downstairs have blinds so that I can shut out the light and watch TV. No one can see into my house though, I have privacy.

Looking around at other parts of my neighborhood and the others surrounding me, there is no getting away from the fact that it’s the suburbs.

For some this is a great place to live. Me? Not so much.

Rows and rows of houses on street after street. No sidewalks and nowhere to walk to.

I spent an hour or so driving around these neighborhoods last week and I can't begin to describe how claustrophobic I felt. No privacy at all and nowhere to get out to except in a car. These houses start at 400k.

Think I’ll stay put in my house, which seems to suit me so well. What kind of place suits you?
