A Sea of Confusion
Today we tend to make people our “Heroes”, most of which is an unearned status. Through social media and the push of a button that says “like” an unknown, unaccomplished person becomes an Icon. The birth of “Influencers” developed and borne a new group of unaccomplished do nothings into our midst and followers are hanging on their every utterance to make purchases they probably don’t need. We raise up entrepreneurs to “Geniuses”, who biggest accomplishments are making money, into the Gurus of our society and we hang on their every word regardless of what it means.
Why are we so in need of “heroes” that we tarnish the meaning with fake ones? Are there no real heroes among us or is it that the glitter of fame has blinded us? Why are so many of us willing to hear the conmen and fall prey to their pitches with blind devotion. What is wrong with our society that it listens to lies and fails to see or hear the truth? Many times the conman speaks to our greed, but some just speak to our insecurities, our frustrations, our lost dreams with such cunning we are completely hoodwinked. Sometimes our dubious “heroes” are lifted to heights they did not imagine themselves, but they have obtained such status simply because we haven’t. When will we abandon these false Gods and come back to the reality that “Hero” implies “heroic” deeds quietly accomplished with sincerity by those who do not seek fame, but merely have done what was needed.
