WTF is Woke, and why should I care? Am I? [1]

The right seem to scream a lot about this word, often not understanding what it means. Personally, I never use it, but somehow it is used to define who they think I might be.
“You’re just woke!” they scream.
“No, I am awake, but I woke up this morning [like every day so far]” I reply.
“Don’t you believe in the meritocracy?” they shout.
“Completely but.” I start
“But? What are you, some kind of commie?” they interject.
“I’m a democratic socialist….” I begin
“Knew it” they rejoice, “you just hate America!”
“If you start with a level playing field, take white privilege for example..” oh god now I’ve done it.
“You hate whites” they accuse, turning blue and ignoring my pale complexion.
“Breathe, dear” I say and walk away.
It is like trying to answer the question, “if women are equal, why are there not as many famous women in history as there are men?”.
You get as far as “Those who wrote history have consistently written women out of it..” then you see their cheeks expand and know it is not worth the effort, they want a three word catchphrase.
Complex topics require complex answers, not rabble-rousing rhetoric.
Unfortunately, I might be woke and…..
I don't care.
