Certainly General Hodges says what he means — I respect that — and I think he is clearly correct. He has been the whole war. This does end in Crimea alright.
x HIMARS will soon be firing from Kherson. The approaches to Crimea are within range. This will degrade Russian defenses/LOC's while "left wing" of the counter-offensive takes Mariupol & Melitopol by January. Then begins the decisive phase of the campaign...liberation of Crimea.

Of more immediate tactical interest to me though— I think a key in the overall campaign.
This is where they pulled back to —
Retreating RU forces are all bunched up on the M14 highway just on the other side of the river — 4 different regiments, an artillery brigade and the 22nd Army Corp. with an airborne division a few clicks west. You can see the assembly (rally) points pretty clearly right now. The Ukrainians in that city — Oleshky — better be real careful here. If it has not already started (and it probably has) it sure will soon. The RUs are absolutely about to get the shit knocked out of them there. Even the small guns can hit them now. All the Ukrainian guns are going to point right there. Sure as hell. I strongly doubt any of those Russian units are combat capable now in any event. They have to be really shaken at this point.
They need to get taken out of the fight before they can scoot north. You see it, right? if as Hodges says, UKR moves on its left to strike at Mariupol and Melitopol those remnants south of the river need to be taken out of the movement before they can reform there — god, why don’t they just surrender? They will have to kill them if they don’t. Talk about a sitting duck.
Anyway, so much for Russia’s retrograde maneuver.

PS — I am really pretty sure that we did give Ukraine MGM 140s — 160 mile range ATTACMs already. We just didn’t give them the 600 mile range ordinance. And god knows what else we really gave them.
