Before the election, the pundits were telling horror stories about voters electing MAGA fascists and America losing its democracy. They cited many reasons:

+ the people have lost faith in democracy

+ they not paying attention, or don't care

+ they care more about inflation than democracy

+ they hate the libs and accept the lesser evil

+ abortion is no longer a hot button



After the election we hear from the same pundits that the voters cared about democracy after all, and they elected fewer fascists than forecast. This is because the polls were off by around 4%. Is that our margin between democracy and fascism?



I am so glad that democracy was saved. We must thank the mainstream media for helping us understand the politicians and the issues instead of obsessing on polls and the horse race. And we must be especially grateful for their careful reporting of both sides of the debate between fascism and democracy.



Heather Cox Richardson writes today, "That this election ... is so close is an endorsement of the nation’s current path, despite the shock of inflation". WTF?



The pundits are also saying that Trump's influence is in decline. Why? The great cesspool of MAGA voters is not going to evaporate overnight, and that means the cynical politicians who pander to this mob are not going to evaporate ether. Perhaps Trump's decline will only make space for others like Cruz and DeSantis.
