Welp. They effed around and found out.
Found out that “Hell hath no fury” like a woman whose right to have her BASIC, fundamental bodily autonomy protected and respected is “scorned.”
Listen. To. Women. Especially to Black women. Not to the pundits (“the economy and inflation are number one on peoples’ minds and anyway, peoples’ minds can only hold ONE topic in there, like us pundits……..” LOL.)
Sure, said the consultant class, abortion rights were the cool topic over the summer after 50 years of precedent was overturned, but Qthuglicans were advised to seize on “CRIME” and the big, scary Black dude coming to a suburb near you every day to pillage, kill and destroy your domestic tranquility. (Rep.-and election-denier, Lee Zeldin perfected that trope in my state, NY. Kathy Hochul, the Democratic incumbent Governor, prevailed nicely over that nonsense!! (When Cuomo had to step down, and as Lt Governor, she became Governor and she kept the COVID restrictions in place, she immediately had this retired RN’s vote for her running for a full term ).
All 3 women top office-holders in Michigan won re-election, Gov. Whitmer, AG Dana Nessel, and Secy-of-State, Jocelyn Benson. They showed how it’s done. (Who run the world? Girls! Actually, I agree with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s SNL routine that “Bitches run the world because bitches get sh*t DONE!!”)
One more, (among too many, examples). Men pundits, mostly (looking at YOU, Joe Scarborough), mocked Katie Hobbs of AZ-make that projected Governor-Elect Katie Hobbs-for refusing to debate her opponent, bats**t crazy media darling, Kari Lake. Ms Hobbs stuck to her guns amidst withering criticism (she knew that Lake only wanted an opportunity to turn the debate stage into a circus and Ms Hobbs-showing some "I'm THAT bitch” energy-simply said “NOPE.”)
In GA, my girl Stacey Abrams, did not prevail (weeps, then squares shoulders, sits up straight). However, she helped build the infrastructure that saw GA elect a Jewish young man and a Black Preacher to the U.S. Senate and will send Rev. Warnock BACK for a full term!!
And finally, exit poll data is starting to come in and initial data is showing that Abortion rights was the #2 issue for voters after inflation. Whether or not you think exit polling is accurate or that people don’t give truthful responses or whatever, this one thing I do know. Like Speaker Pelosi said about the Affordable Care Act, (when Repugs were tryna repeal it-like how many/ 50 times?), “people may not remember who gave them a right, but they sure will never forget who took it AWAY!!!” (I paraphrased a bit, but that was close to her actual quote back then)
So ladies-all ladies- (and the men who supported us), give your selves a STANDING OVATION!!! (Only if you voted BLUE, though. Er’body else, take a seat.)
