39-year-old Eduardo Acosta, a father of four who sold exotic cars, was convicted last Thursday.
During Election Day back in 2020, Acosta was driving on his jet ski when he encountered two men on a jet ski, identified as Wilson Peralta and Alfredo Garcia; the jet ski had a “Ridin’ with Biden” flag on it. That was when Acosta, along with a group of men, decided to confront the Biden-supporting jet skiers at a tiny island near Virginia Key. Trump-supporting Acosta had a heated argument with the Biden supporters. He stated that Joe Biden was a “child molester”; such a claim stems from a QAnon conspiracy theory that states that child sex traffickers from the “deep state” are working overtime to overthrow Donald Trump from the presidency. The argument later escalated into gunshots aimed at the Biden supporters; thankfully, they were not wounded.
According to a cellphone video recorded by one of the two men, Acosta at some point lunged at them but was held back by one of the people in his group. According to testimony, Acosta came back later armed with a handgun, shooting at the men as they jumped on their Jet Ski and zoomed off. The two victims fell into the water as a bullet whizzed overhead.
He caught up with them on the water, holding them at gunpoint, police said. “Don’t come back to this island. I’m going to kill you,” he allegedly said in Spanish, according to police.

Defense attorney Eric Matheny argued Acosta had grabbed his gun because he was fearful of the two men who had been acting erratically after they had come back to the island. Matheny told jurors the gun went off accidentally as he was on his Jet Ski.
