That’s all within the same timespan that Musk also threatened advocacy groups with a lawsuit because he’s lost advertising. Which …

x I'm not a crystal-baller but I feel comfortable forecasting that 95% of the major advertisers who've suspended their Twitter buys in the last week are never ever coming back. Not after Musk's tweet this morning. — James Wolcott (@JamesWolcott) November 7, 2022

Advertisers have made clear that they need to see stable, competent leadership to have faith in spending their money at Twitter, and this ain’t it. This is Musk broadcasting that yes, he is turning the platform into a right-wing one.

Musk’s election endorsement is now his pinned tweet, driving home that this isn’t one of his passing fancies. “To independent-minded voters,” he wrote. “Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, therefore I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the Presidency is Democratic.”

Back in June, mind you, Politico reported that Musk was “leaning” toward Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, as his preferred 2024 presidential candidate. And go figure, he’s not advising Florida voters to vote for Democratic state legislators in the name of divided government.

The guy isn’t just a Republican, he’s a Republican who embraces far-right memes and cozies up to neo-Nazis. All while insisting he’s “independent-minded.” Honestly, if I could require a single thing from white supremacist alt-righters (besides that they stop being white supremacist alt-righters) it would be that they f’ing admit what they are. It’s a real show of pride in your beliefs when you go around posting them for hundreds of millions of people to see and then refuse to own them.

The juxtaposition of Musk’s tweets is useful, though. Hey, independent voters, the guy who just tweeted that meme featuring a Nazi soldier thinks you should vote for Republicans.

x Nothing to see here, just a $44 billion campaign contribution to Republicans. https://t.co/Z02WFmtyKQ — Shannon Watts (@shannonrwatts) November 7, 2022

x In 2018, Elon Musk rightly declared that “climate change is the biggest threat that humanity faces this century.”

Four years later, Musk says: vote for the climate change deniers to block any action on climate change!

Sheesh. https://t.co/CMxrxfsQkZ — Mehdi Hasan (@mehdirhasan) November 7, 2022

x Gotta balance not-nazis out with some nazis, otherwise the not-nazis will run wild with their not-nazi agenda — Jamison Foser (@jamisonfoser) November 7, 2022

There is also a message here for another group:

x Message to Democratic elected officials:

If you hold control of Congress, stick it to the idle rich who buy and ruin stuff people like, sit online playing edgelord all day, and tried to bury you this year under attack ads. Enact a billionaires’ tax. https://t.co/tKv8wKlLIq — Greg Greene (parody) (@ggreeneva) November 7, 2022

Amen.
