first year Alaska used contemporary art for election materials, this year students are featured. This by Pat Race.
Noticed a couple of pleasing things recently:
On a ʼfeel goodʼ section of mainstream news on the web, an ad for incumbent senator Lisa Murkowski
a lovely pictorial shot of Denali, with Title Moment of Zen from (something like) Alaskans for Murkowski and then she talks about loving the state.
My local officials (nearly unopposed) are still meeting folks and paying for ads.
I appreciated the neighborly quality of this campaign coverage of AK-ALL (race for Alaskaʼs one seat in the US House)
Reporter Liz Ruskin for Alaska Public Media (alaskapublic.org) which is statewide PBS and NPR writes informatively and light-heartedly about campaign offices in Anchorage.
Mary Peltola campaign, Spenard Road
Architecture: 1980s strip mall
Nearest neighbor: Pet supply shop, in next storefront
“Campaign casual?” vibe
Nick Begich III campaign, Northern Lights Boulevard
Architecture: 1980s strip mall.
Nearest neighbors: A wig store and a private motor vehicle licensing office.
Start-up – that’s what the vibe is here: Tech start up.
Sarah Palin campaign, aka Ward Realty, Old Seward Highway
Architecture: Low-slung commercial space, built in 1960s and painted blue
Nearest neighbor: Judy’s Cafe, across the parking lot
vibe: homey, personality-driven, and has Trump’s seal of approval.
