John Legend: DeSantis Is A ‘Cruel And Small Individual’
John Legend - Ordinary People (Official Music Video)
Remember that those who think we are enemies are ordinary people taught to fear and hate, and that we can offer them the best of everything available, even if they think they don’t want it.
Wackadoodliosity
Republicans have a new answer to the abortion question, and it’s worse than a total ban
In a report from Bryan Anderson of WRAL, Hines said he wants victims of rape and incest seeking abortion to go through “a community-level review process outside the jurisdiction of the federal government.”
Aha! No eeevul Federals claiming that wimmens has rights of their own, and can make decisions about medical procedures themselves, assisted by doctors.
Facially unconstitutional. States don’t get to write statutes pretending to limit Federal authority under the Constitution. Unless you are the sort of pseudo-Originalist who holds that Nullification was the Founders’ intent.
A culture that notoriously abuses women and gender nonconforming people thrust into the public eye is not going to give survivors a fair shake. It is looking to put victims of a crime on trial instead of focusing on repercussions for the abuser.
NYT's Bret Stephens changes mind about climate change, but his mea culpa leaves out the culpa part Meteor Blades, Daily Kos Staff Emeritus Bret Stephens went to Greenland and decided it really is melting. Previously, as recently as July 4, he was still a solid climate science denier. He hates that word because, he says, as do other offended deniers, that it is an attempt to tar climate “skeptics” as equivalent to Holocaust deniers. That, like so much of what Stephens has said about climate change over the past 24 years at The Wall Street Journal and, since 2017, the Times, is malarkey. What I want to know is why the NYT has hired so many reality-challenged people for its opinion pages for so long. WaPo, too. I mean, you expect that at the WSJ, right? But not at the supposed leaders in journalism.
Trump blew past the deadline to produce documents to the J6 Committee ahead of his scheduled testimony on 11/14. He is now reported to be toying with the idea of announcing his 2024 candidacy on 11/14, with the bozotic idea that that would shield him from the subpoena.
Scoop: House GOP to release 1,000-page road map for Biden FBI probe
Well, sort of. Alex Wagner noted that WaPo describes it as containing 50 pages of actual content. TPM summarizes the supposed ‘Bombshell’ report as Composed Mostly of Old Letters, with hundreds of pages of signatures.
The report highlights five key allegations by whistleblowers that Republicans maintain show a "systemic culture of unaccountability" and “rampant corruption, manipulation, and abuse." They include: "Artificially inflating statistics about domestic violent extremism." "Abusing its counterterrorism authorities to investigate parents who spoke at school board meetings," by creating a special “threat tag” to track school board-related cases. (Note: A federal judge recently threw out a lawsuit challenging a DOJ memo on school board threats.) Abusing its "foreign intelligence authorities to spy on American citizens, including people associated with the campaign of President Trump in 2016." "Clearing the Bureau of employees who dissent from its woke, leftist agenda." Prioritizing political cases over criminal ones and drawing resources away from "real law enforcement duties."
I could counter with facts here, but I prefer 👆👆😂😂👆👆
TPM further says
The other 50 pages are a who’s who of Fox News-flavored grievances and conspiracy theories.
Festivus Airing of Grievances
A Festivus—for the restivus!
x In a HuffPost interview, Jimmy Kimmel says he almost quit his show when ABC asked him to dial back jokes about Trump. He says he understood ABC’s concern but refused. ABC relented. Kimmel says he thinks Trump will eventually go to jail and wants to be on the air when it happens. — Duty To Warn 🔉 (@duty2warn) November 4, 2022
Jimmy wants to go live with the indictments, arrests, arraignments, pitiful defense arguments, verdict, sentencing, fruitless appeals, and the actual, actual going in through the doors and being not fitted for his new orange jumpsuit. Lather, rinse, repeat. Amirite, Jimmy?
Such a target-rich environment!
And can we have a real FBI check on the Secret Service agents protecting him inside?
x I dare you to find a more honorable man than Jimmy Kimmel.
Despite being super talented, he sacrificed ratings to do the "right" thing in pushing back against the MAGA, fascist, Donald Trump.

Musk is gutting the Verified User program at Twitter. The actual celebrities will be required to pay $8/month for their blue check marks—but then anybody can pay to get a check mark, which thereby becomes utterly meaningless.
He was planning to shut down all content moderation, but has relented for now.

x Oops, there goes another dozen major ad agencies. Congrats! Your obvious ploy to eliminate any advertisers beyond gold scams and Mike Lindell is proceeding according to plan!

Yes, Elon, that’s what’s happening to you.
x Mike Lindell says he is friends with Eduardo Bolsonaro, so he had his “cyber guys” watching the election in Brazil, and he’s pretty sure their election was rigged. pic.twitter.com/pa7cg8aFTt — Ron Filipkowski 🇺🇦 (@RonFilipkowski) November 2, 2022
If by “rigged” you mean citizens voting in greater numbers than O Chefe wants…
x The @TheJusticeDept and @FBI may want to look into Mike Lindell’s claims that he has cyber people who have hacked into voting machines and watching as people cast their votes. Seems like the admission of a cyber crime, at the very least.

x Spoke to several close Trump allies early this eve who say the reality is Trump can’t stand being ignored, wants to claim part of GOP gains as his own, resents attn on DeSantis and on Pence’s book, and, as several put it, wants “revenge.” And he believes RNC will fall in line. — Robert Costa (@costareports) November 4, 2022

Justice
Trump adviser Kash Patel testified to grand jury investigating Mar-a-Lago documents
Patel is one of a handful of advisers around Trump after his presidency who could have legal risk related to the Mar-a-Lago situation. He served as a national security and defense official during the Trump administration, and this summer became one of Trump’s designees to interact with the National Archives and the Justice Department as both agencies tried to repossess classified records Trump kept from his presidency.
Patel claims that he personally saw TFG declassify the documents in the case. He was asked about that, and about why TFG took classified documents to Mar-a-Swampo.
x JUST IN: A federal judge has denied Mike LINDELL’s effort to access to search warrant affidavit justifying the seizure of his phone. The government, he said, had “demonstrated a compelling interest in the ongoing criminal investigation.”

This is not the Government threatening retaliation for speech or affiliation. It is the government threatening criminal actions against people who are alleged to have violated federal law.
Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes testifies in his own defense in Jan. 6 sedition trial
Rhodes told jurors he feared the White House would be attacked by anti-fascists in the weeks after the election and anticipated then-President Donald Trump would invoke the Insurrection Act to counter what he described as a "siege" of left-wing assailants. "Of course, Trump did not invoke the Insurrection Act," he admitted. Rhodes is likely the only one of the five defendants in this trial who will testify. The five are charged with seditious conspiracy — a Civil War-era crime accusing the defendants of seeking to overthrow, levy war against, or prevent the execution of U.S. law. The last time federal prosecutors secured a guilty verdict for the charge was in a 1995 Islamic militant bomb plot trial in New York. Defense lawyers maintain the defendants were in Washington, D.C., that day as security personnel for the president's rally. Rhodes also claimed Friday the Oath Keepers' primary role was apolitical and meant to provide volunteer disaster relief and security, citing the group's presence in Ferguson, Missouri and Louisville, Kentucky during civil unrest protesting police killings of Black Americans.
Iran
Twitter is awash in tweets on the #mahsaamini protests, in Farsi, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish, Hindi, Russian, Turkish…
The new assessment comes days after Saudi Arabia shared intelligence with Washington indicating an imminent strike The threat of an Iranian attack on Saudi Arabia or other Middle East neighbors has eased but not passed, Persian Gulf and U.S. officials said, days after Riyadh and Washington shared intelligence indicating an imminent strike.
Meanwhile, Russia invests $4.5bn in Iran's oil and gas, and journalists reject allegations of working for CIA and Israel. Iran's headquarters for the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice, a powerful religious organisation responsible for defining regulations relating to the hijab and Islamic attitudes in Iran, has said it will not ease laws on the wearing of the clothing despite protests calling for it to no longer be obligatory. In an interview with Khabar Online, Ali Khan Mohammadi, the organisation's spokesman, said: "In our constitution, removing the hijab is a crime, and [our] organisation will not step back from implementing the [wearing of the] hijab."
Why Won’t the Workers of Iran Unite?
Unlike in 1979, much of the Iranian working class is precariously employed—and they have more to lose than their chains by joining the protests.

COP27
x It is truly a good thing that #COP27 and now hopefully will be annual event maintaining momentum
https://t.co/Vu8tOuu8sv — Mary Fuller (@sustainablist1) November 5, 2022
Adaptation Gap Report 2022 International adaptation finance flows to developing countries reached USD 29 billion in 2020, an increase of 4 per cent from 2019. But up to USD 340 billion per year is needed by 2030, and far more beyond. International adaptation finance to developing countries continues to rise, reaching US$28.6 billion in 2020. This represents a 34 per cent share of total climate finance to developing countries in 2020 and is a 4 per cent increase from 2019. Combined adaptation and mitigation finance flows in 2020 fell at least US$17 billion short of the US$100 billion pledged to developing countries, even by climate finance providers' own accounting. If the annual increase from 2019 persisted in the coming years, the US$100 billion target would not be met until 2025. This calls for significant acceleration in adaptation finance, especially if doubling of 2019 finance flows by 2025 is to be met, as the Glasgow Climate Pact urges. Far too much bureaucratic bafflegab, far too little data. The data show far too little committed to climate mitigation and adaptation, and of that little even less has been forthcoming. Meanwhile industry is ramping up massively, because renewable energy and EVs are massively profitable. Governments should concentrate on ending fossil fuel subsidies and restrictive regulations.
x Am quoted in @Nature curtain-raiser on #COP27 on why global #climate politics is about to get much more messy.
How #LossAndDamage and #ClimateJustice discussions can no longer be avoided, but are unlikely to be resolved at #SharmElSheikh.
