Herschel Walker, the avatar for the reprehensible black republican
The Republican Party is the bane of black America, constantly enacting and supporting public policies that kneecap our progress. Still, delusional and bemused conservative republicans earnestly attempt to recruit black members into their pernicious cabal. I am at a loss for why, given their backward stances on civil rights, abortion, voting rights, police brutality, and economic mobility for black and indigenous cultures.
Nevertheless, there are the figurative “handful” of black Americans who have joined a political group that actively works against their interests. They are the “five to ten percenters”, another name for the small proportion of registered black voters who can be counted on to vote for republicans during each election cycle.
Some of these five and ten percenters are choosing to run for office. Herman Cain, the deceased former head of the Kansas City Federal Reserve who became famous for his “9–9–9” tax pledge during interviews, unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for president in 2012. Four years later, Ben Carson, one of the few black American brain surgeons, followed Mr. Cain into presidential politics.
Despite his financial success and high profile, Herman Cain was considered as an unserious clown by many astute political observers, as his novel tax plan was gleefully derided and dismissed by serious tax analysts. Ben Carson, a man of seemingly prodigious intellect, struggled mightily to communicate his positions to a very receptive republican audience four years later. Mr. Carson was unceremoniously ousted from the republican presidential primary, but was rewarded with a distinguished position at HUD (Housing and Urban Development), becoming a token black man in a Trump administration that was devoid of diversity. Apart from his slavish devotion to Donald Trump, Dr. Ben Carson had no prior salient experience in the area of housing development.
The most prominent and offensive black conservative running for office in 2022 is Herschel Walker, Georgia’s beloved son. Walker played college football for the University of Georgia, cemented his place as a historically great college running back by winning the Heisman Trophy, and was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. He went on to enjoy a fifteen-year career as a professional football star, excelling in stints with the Dallas Cowboys, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Philadelphia Eagles. After retiring from football, Walker dabbled in cage fighting, secured ownerships in assorted businesses, published some books, and became an honorary sheriff. He also threatened an ex-paramour with a gun, engaged in a tense standoff with law enforcement, publicized his struggles with dissociative disorder, and fathered four children by four different women. So of course, he thought himself qualified enough to represent Georgia in the United States Senate.
Mr. Walker is tantalizingly close to securing Georgia’s coveted Senate seat, as recent polls have him virtually tied with Reverend Raphael Warnock, the eloquent black preacher and progressive democrat. Reverend Warnock has served in the United States Senate for two years with distinction, assisting the Democratic Party with shepherding policy bills through the United States Congress. Congress confirmed our country’s first black female Supreme Court Justice because Raphael Warnock is currently a Senator. Mr. Warnock has contributed to America being far better off as a country than two years ago, when Donald Trump was soiling the office of the presidency with his execrable presence.
When it came time to cast his vote for Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first black woman to join the Supreme Court, Reverend Warnock spoke eloquently and powerfully of his two young daughters, clearly enunciating each successive word as he spoke of how Mrs. Brown Jackson’s appointment affected them. While listening to Mr. Warnock speak, one is able to effortlessly extract import and meaning from his words. Like Barack Obama, another exemplary black democrat, Warnock is able to stir emotion and persuade. Moreover, he does not seem to be hypocrite, as he has freely offered the voters information about his personal life. What about Mr. Herschel Walker? Well, he is the antithesis of Raphael Warnock, a thoroughly dishonest carnival barker who should be kept away from public office at all cost.
Let us start with an assessment of Walker’s ability to verbalize his thoughts, a skill that the most consequential (Obama, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, etc.) black leaders in our history have been able to master. Mr. Walker can definitely make his thoughts known through his words, reflections of thoughts that are jumbled and confused. At the relatively young age of sixty, Mr. Walker speaks as if he is at the end-stage of dementia. When asked a question about public policy, Mr. Walker pulls disparate thoughts from everywhere, smashing them together as a toddler does different colors of paint on a canvas with hands. The man is an extremely rich no-nothing, abjectly unqualified to hold any type of public office.
Still, white conservatives in Georgia swear by Herschel Walker. When given the choice to vote for an infinitely more qualified white conservative republican and Walker, republican primary voters overwhelmingly voted for Herschel Walker, the local boy who made good. Of course, Georgia conservatives love him because he won a lot of football games for Georgia, but football is not the main reason for their adulation. White conservatives love Herschel Walker because like Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, a staunch black conservative, Walker is a black man who supports policies that hamstring African Americans. Conservatives think they are able to obscure their racial aggression under the veil of support for this black man.
However, Herschel Walker is one of the worst kinds of black men, a pathological liar who conforms to pervading stereotypes. Among racists and denigrators of black men, conversations concerning black male absenteeism is common. Walker has often spoken of the need for black men to assume responsibility for their sexual behavior and the resulting consequences, which are often children. Of course, the majority of black men take care of care of children and love their significant others faithfully. But instead of highlighting anecdotes of black men who own up to their responsibilities, Walker chastises black men, offering himself as a reformed paragon of Christian piety.
Recently, two separate women, former paramours of Herschel Walker, have come forward to accuse him of encouraging and paying for their abortions. The news that Walker paid for abortions is newsworthy because he is an anti-choice candidate calling for an end to all abortions in the United States. This shocking news is compounded by revelations of Walker’s chronic absenteeism as a father. Public reporting states that he is an extremely prolific individual when it comes to siring children. One of his many children, Christian Walker, a popular conservative personality, holds similar views to his father. Nevertheless, Christian has expressed unbridled enmity toward his father, accusing him of exhibiting the type of violence that contributed to his itinerant existence as a child.
In a Twitter post, Christian Walker wrote this: “You’re not a family man when you left us to bang a bunch of women, threatened to kill us, and had us move over six times in six months running from your violence.”
Herschel Walker’s own son, an archconservative, is publicly disparaging and humiliating his father. That is how much of a disaster Herschel Walker is as a father, a man, and a senatorial candidate. And despite all of the negative checkmarks that suggest they should be wary of Walker’s ascendancy to the Senate, conservatives are still intent on pulling the lever for this truly unfortunate man.
***
I have said that Herschel Walker is the worst of the black conservatives running for office and/or occupying the public square. Mr. Walker’s presence in supplemented by other black republicans, abjectly mediocre individuals selling their souls in a cynical quest for power, individuals who would go nowhere in the modern democratic party, where members of the black glitterati are rated as beyond exceptional.
Kristina Karamo, a former professor at a community college, is seeking the office of Secretary of State in Michigan. Her pursuit of this position is historic, as she is the first black woman to run for the exalted position. If elected, she would assume management of an organization that boasts an annualized budget of two hundred fifty million dollars. Normally, Mrs. Karamo’s possible ascendancy to public office would be a cause for celebration in the black community. However, a mere cursory study of this individual will show that she is glorified election denier, gaining notoriety after accusing the city of Detroit of voter fraud. Detroit is a predominantly black city, with seventy-seven percent of the city’s residence identifying as African American. As is the case for Herschel Walker, Karamo is doing the racists work for them, as she effectively provides a shield for racists who are trying to dilute the power of the black vote through nefarious means. Stopping her from occupying high office should be of the highest priority.
Other notable black conservatives are attempting to provide cover for insidious racists, stepping forward to act as surrogates for conservatives. In addition to eschewing psychotropic medications and therapy, Kanye West, a renowned entertainer and former billionaire, has said slavery was a choice and he has slandered Jewish people. West’s business partners responded to his vilification of the Jews by renouncing their associations with the eccentric entertainer, prompting Kanye to reach out to the black community in a tasteless way.
“I know how it feels to have a knee on my neck now,” said Mr. West. Kanye made the comment after receiving justified criticism for harassing George Floyd’s family.
Candace Owens was a black democrat before Donald Trump’s ascension prompted her to change her party affiliation to republican. As a converted conservative, she looks down at black democrats, labeling us as slaves that are hopelessly reliant on receiving succor from the “democratic plantation”. However, it is Mrs. Owens who is prostrating herself for republican goons, as she is a unfortunate opportunist parroting statements from one the most execrable racists in America.
“What the hell do you have to lose?” said Donald Trump before a crowd of white Michigan suburbanites in 2016, implying that black Americans had no other option but to support an organization that routinely seeks to disparage and oppress them.
Mrs. Owens affixed Donald Trump’s insulting question on the first page of her book, Blackout: How Black America Can Make Its Second Escape from the Democratic Plantation. Owens considers herself a leader, someone chosen lead the mass exodus of black Americans from the Democratic Party. Perhaps Mrs. Owens should address the people she aims to lead with more respect. Black people in 2022 are not going to follow someone who has such little regard for their current existence.
There are dozens of other black republicans who are seeking higher office — United States Senate and United States House — during this current election cycle. I think the last count was eighty-one, considered a record amount. They all believe as the people I have mentioned before, as they are arrogant elitists who traffic in belittling black people in exchange for ingratiating themselves with white supremacists. My hope is that all of these black republicans are defeated decisively, precipitating their trajectory to the dustbin of history. I do not want any of these people to be considered as role models.
