If you think Georgia Republican Governor Kemp is an example of a normal, non-MAGA republican, then you’ve been hoodwinked. Greg Palast’s documentary, Vigilante: Georgia’s Vote Suppression Hitman, traces Kemp’s family wealth to his ancestor, James Habersham, governor of Georgia, who brought the first enslaved Africans to Georgia. Today, Kemp has transformed that plantation wealth by partnering with Koch Industries to transform his vast holdings of private forests into toilet paper. Plantation Partners, Kemp’s company, is the largest owner of private forests in the state. Suddenly, Herschel “don’t we have enough trees around here” Walker begins to make sense. Walker is perfectly aligned with Kemp’s plantation racial economic logic, which makes Walker’s run for the senate even more obscene. View the film’s trailer here:
